How does a quilt go from an idea, an applique concept, to a finished quilt?  The June program will be presented by Marilyn Hardy (who machine appliqued the quilt top and did the edge finish) and Jackie Ruffing (who enhanced the applique design with just the right amount and the appropriate designs in the quilting.)  Along the way they will share insights such as these:

     Gathering ideas for quilt designs.

Making a pattern design your own through subtle or major alterations to the pattern.

Preventing stiffness and thickness when many layers of applique are layered on top of each other.

Ensuring there is uniformity in the placement of repeated applique elements.

Applying the blanket stitch to secure applique edges properly—technical tips.

Deciding what style of quilting motif is suitable to the quilt.

Deciding how much quilting should a quilt top have.

Filling negative spaces appropriately and effectively.

Planning and executing a worthy and appropriate edge finish.

With Marilyn and Jackie as your “guides,” you will gain an appreciation for our raffle quilt “Rose Wreath” and pick up some practical tips and pointers for the making of a machine-appliqued quilt.
